Moon Child: The Manual

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO MOON CHILD'S BACKGROUND STORY

One night a meteor crashes into the peaceful countryside of the planet Utopia. It is the source of a techno-virus which rapidly turns Utopia into a soulless, metallic world. Centuries before a green elf has been sent to protect the planet. His name is Moon Child.

THE AIM OF THE GAME

The player must guide Moon Child in his mission to free Utopia from the techno-virus. The game is divided into four environments, each split into a number of levels packed with original situations, pitfalls and enemies.

In environment 1 Utopia has not yet been infected with the techno-virus. It has a magical moonlit setting. Environment 2 emphasizes the looming threat of the techno-virus (in the shape of a construction site). In environment 3 Moon Child flies through the Techno-Fortress with a jetpack. Environment 4 is the psychedelic, adrenaline-pumping, eye-opening finale.

In order to succeed in his quest to destroy the techno-virus Moon Child has to gather a total of at least 77 Dark Diamonds that are spread throughout the environments. If he doesn't succeed in fetching enough Dark Diamonds, Moon Child will not be allowed to enter the psychedelic heart of the techno-virus: environment 4, the big finale. This means you have to find at least 77 Dark Diamonds in the first three environments to be able to complete the game.

Seven Dark Diamonds can be found in each level of the first three environments. Try finding all possible 84 Dark Diamonds for the ultimate high-score!

    THE GAME'S SCORE REVIEW

At the bottom of the screen is a review of your current score. This consists of three elements, from left to right:

Below left is the Energy Meter, in the shape of a heart. Energy is lost by falling too far, landing on a lethal surface or by touching a harmful object or enemy. The more energy you lose, the more the heart is corrupted by the techno-virus. If it completely takes over the heart, one life is lost and the next life is activated. To the left of the heart you can read
the number of remaining lives. You can also regain energy though, by collecting the various kinds of fruit and other food-related objects that are spread throughout the levels. [NOTE: IF YOU'VE ACTIVATED THE CHEAT MODE, YOU WILL NOT LOSE LIVES!]

Below centre are seven translucent Dark Diamonds. Each one represents one of the seven Dark Diamonds hidden in each of the scenes which make up for the first three environments. When you collect a Dark Diamond, it will automatically move to its place in the Dark Diamond inventory. When you have managed to collect all seven Dark Diamonds, the Dark Diamond inventory will start to flash.

Below right is the Multi-Coloured Diamond. A number of collectible coloured diamonds are spread throughout the game. When collected, the Multi-Coloured Diamond will gradually transform into a heart. If enough coloured diamonds
are collected to make the heart whole, you will gain you an extra life. However, there is a risk: if Moon Child loses a life before the Multi-Coloured Diamond has become a heart, you will have to start collecting the coloured diamonds all over again.

USEFUL ELEMENTS MOON CHILD WILL FREQUENTLY ENCOUNTER

The hydraulic lever - Switch it to perform certain actions, mostly opening doors. It shows a green light when it is activated and a red light when it is deactivated.

The warp - Move into a warp to get transported to a different place with a molecular technique!

The jumper - Move onto a jumper to get catapulted into the air!

    WHEN THE GAME IS OVER

If Moon Child has lost all of his lives, the game over animation will be displayed (unless you've turned the movies off in the settings) and if you've gained enough diamonds you can enter your name in the high-score entry. Use the arrow left and arrow right keys to select your desired characters, use space to enter a character. Between the characters is an arrow pointing to the left. That's the equivalent of backspace. Finally, you can finish your entry by selecting the arrow that points upward.
